Hello everyone, I found this 1930s Rolex 2508 chronograph listed for sale for about 12.000 usd in my country (price shouldn’t be a source for concern since vintage watches here in Chile tend to be a lot cheaper) though I’m not quite sure if it’s really above or at market value. I’m tempted to buy the watch . Rolex, on the other hand, has more: Polar Explorer, Z-blue Milgauss, Batman, Hulk, and the Dark Rhodium Oyster Perpetual. Maybe the two-tone sub, ignoring all the hate it gets. Factory specs for new watches are now within +/- 2 sec/day. I also agree with what Mr. Archer said regarding modern Rolex. Not much there that interests me outside of the new polar ExpII, which as others on this same forum have said is the Rolex for the non-Rolex guy. Vintage is another story outside of Newman Daytonas. A simple calendar moonphase Rolex is an amazing piece. To answer the OP, IMHO my Rolex GMT Master ii 116710 LN, Calibre 3186 is probably the most versatile watch I have in my collection and is without doubt the watch to travel with. I'm thinking as good a reason to own a Rolex.
The movement is indeed a valjoux 72, maybe not from Rolex. The case is not from Rolex. I've never seen one like this. Also the bezel has some kind of a different font. The dial looks nice, but doesn't look authentic. And not from the lume dots, but by font used. The chronograph hands i think should be for this combination black, not yellow. Oct 19, 2024.
